Reuse of Filtering Facepiece Respirators in the COVID-19 Era

چکیده

The current COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an immense and unforeseen increase demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) healthcare workers worldwide. Amongst other products, respirator masks are crucial to protect the users against transmission of virus. Decontamination reuse existing stock could be a solution shortage new respirators. Based upon studies, it was found that (I) solid quality control method is essential test product reuse, (II) in-depth evaluation different parts filtering facepiece (FFR) should considered, (III) communication cycle take track amount as this limited ensure quality. goal paper two-fold. First, we identify impact decontamination on FFRs how performed. Two types analysed within paper, resulting recommendation combining quantitative mask fit testing with thorough sensory decontaminated qualify them reuse. Secondly, possibilities eventual user mapped through reasoning.

Considerations for recommending extended use and limited reuse of filtering facepiece respirators in health care settings.

Public health organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are increasingly recommending the use of N95 filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) in health care settings. For infection control purposes, the usual practice is to discard FFRs after close contact with a patient ("single use"). However, in some situations, such as during contact with tuberculosis patien...

Total inward leakage of nanoparticles through filtering facepiece respirators.

Nanoparticle (<100 nm size) exposure in workplaces is a major concern because of the potential impact on human health. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-approved particulate respirators are recommended for protection against nanoparticles based on their filtration efficiency at sealed conditions. Concerns have been raised on the lack of information for face seal leak...

Evaluation of five decontamination methods for filtering facepiece respirators.

Concerns have been raised regarding the availability of National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-certified N95 filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) during an influenza pandemic. One possible strategy to mitigate a respirator shortage is to reuse FFRs following a biological decontamination process to render infectious material on the FFR inactive. However, little data exis...

Evaluation of N95 Filtering Facepiece Respirators Challenged with Engineered Nanoparticles

NIOSH-certified respirators, including N95 respirators, are recommended when engineering and administrative controls do not adequately prevent exposures to airborne nanomaterials. Laboratory evaluations of filtering efficiency using standard test aerosols have been reported in the literature, but there is no information on penetration of engineered nanoparticles (1–100 nm) for N95 filtering fac...

Size-Resolved Penetration of Filtering Materials from CE-Marked Filtering Facepiece Respirators

Throughout the years, the performance of the FFRs has been the topic of extensive studies, resulting mainly in the characterization of aerosol penetration through filters using aerosols that are thought to be similar to those encountered in workplaces. There are limited number of studies in the literature reporting CE-marked respirator performance, and there is a need to perform a penetration e...
